Our Story
The acronym TOMAGWA means "Tomball, Magnolia,
& Waller." Our name is unique and holds great
importance to low-income, uninsured families, who need health
care and reside in southwest Montgomery, southeast Waller
and northwest Harris Counties.
Over 18 years ago, TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries was founded
from the concern of local residents who witnessed a man die
in Magnolia from an infection and a little girl in Tomball who
lost her hearing due to recurring ear infections. These people
did not seek medical treatment due to lack of medical insurance
and inadequate finances to pay for services.
TOMAGWA is a nominal fee, comprehensive family practice clinic
that provides medical services regardless of race, creed,
ethnicity, religion affiliation or the ability to pay. Last
year, more than 150 dedicated professional
and service oriented volunteers along with a small staff provided
over 8,700 family member visits, from babies
to grandparents, who could not afford medical care and were
without health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
It is important to understand that over 85
percent of the uninsured in our community live in a household
where one or more family members work full time. That's where
our clinic provides the necessary medical assistance to those
who might go without care; the repercussions of lack of medical
access affects every single one of us - crowded ER's, rising
insurance premiums, and most importantly neighbors and children
in our community at great medical risk. With
TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries there is hope and care.
TOMAGWA Ministries Medical Clinic, hospitals, and the community have joined together in the battle to provide high quality compassionate medical care to those in need. TOMAGWA Ministries Medical Clinic will continue to challenge itself to:
- Enhance the quality of medical care, as the only nominal fee clinic within the tri-county region
- Challenge the public to join in the quest to provide medical care for low- income families who do not have insurance or do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid.
- Encourage patients to take preventive care of themselves.
- Reflect the highest possible ethical and medical standards.
- Recruit and train quality volunteer nurses, doctors, medical students and community members.
- Build a network of collaborative partners.
